A care home manager has been jailed after stealing the life savings of an Alzheimer sufferer under her care.
The defendant posed as a “trustworthy figure of authority”, but instead exploited her position to gain access to the victim’s debit card and bank account, and over a period of months stole £34,000 from the victim’s bank account- buying herself an aquarium, a mini cooper, and a tortoise among other items.
The defendant’s fraud was only found out after a letter was received from the victim’s bank while the defendant was on holiday and opened another member of care home staff only to find the victims account was overdrawn. Police raided the defendant’s home and discovered receipts for transactions which the defendant could not explain.
The defendant was jailed for 12 months after she pled guilty to fraud by abuse of position.
